Bicytopenia Secondary to Autoimmune Myelofibrosis as the First Presentation of an Undiagnosed Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Rare Case Report

Abstract: Autoimmune myelofibrosis is thought to be uncommon cause of bone marrow fibrosis and a rare complication of systemic lupus erythematosus. We describe the clinical and immunopathologic characteristics of a secondary AIMF in a 33-year-old female patient with undiagnosed SLE that developed with acute bicytopenia. Complete bone marrow regeneration was restored and then improved hematological status after treatment with corticosteroid. The patient was in stable clinical health as a result of the six-month follow-up. In the differential diagnosis of pancytopenia, we should include SLE-associated AIMF in the differential diagnosis of pancytopenia.
