Demographic, Clinical and Laboratory Characteristics of Ocular Syphilis: 6-Years Case Series Study From an Eye Center in East-China

In this review, a total of 131 cases of ocular syphilis and the annual number of total syphilis cases from January 2016 to December 2021 were included. Methods is a newspaper published in Hong Kong. According to this report, there were 131 cases of ocular syphilis and the annual number of total syphilis infections from January 2016 to December 2021. In only 2 out of every two of the 70 percent of cases undergoing serum HIV testing, HIV was found in only 2 of 70 cases. The average titer of serum rapid plasma regain at presentation was 1:32, ranging from 1:10:512 to 1:100. No matter the initial visual acuity, ocular disease type, or RPR titers, penicillin therapy was effective and timely, ocular syphilis with active inflammation responded well to penicillin therapy, as long as it was identified early and treated properly and promptly.

A peculiar case of syphilis infection: The great imitator is on the rise

We review a case report of syphilitic uveitis and papillitis, followed by acute vision loss, in this case, we describe a rare occurrence of a tertiary syphilis infection pathologic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy that closely mimics a massive cell arteritis or arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy. We hope to raise our concerns for the increasing prevalence of syphilis infections in patients with otherwise unexplained uveitis by presenting this case.

Ocular manifestations and full house membranous nephropathy as a rare presentation of secondary syphilis

A patient's risk factors could guide determining the correct patient population to test for syphilis. Here's a patient with secondary syphilis, with initial concern about a potential concomitant lupus diagnosis. Testing revealed a fast plasma reagin and reactive treponemal antibody, which is consistent with active syphilis. The puncture was prompt with a rapid venereal disease research laboratory test, and he was immediately started on intravenous Penicillin G. Lumbar puncture. Urinalysis revealed nephrotic range proteinuria, which, as well as the positive ANA, prompted renal biopsy. The non-reactive VDRL appeared on the sequel, his RPR increased, and lumbar puncture revealed a non-reactive VDRL. The presence of lupus was not reported to be of greatest concern after the completion of proteinuria, the decrease of the ANA titer, and no further positive laboratory or signs pointing to a concomitant rheumatologic disorder. The sole diagnosis of secondary syphilis was made, but secondary syphilis was not identified, and no further investigation of secondary syphilis was made.

Determinants of syphilis infection among pregnant women attending antenatal care in hospitals of Wolaita zone, Southern Ethiopia, 2020

2020, Wolaita Zone, Southern Ethiopia, Objective of the research The aim of this research was to identify determinants of syphilis infection among pregnant women attending antenatal care in hospitals in the Wolaita zone, Southern Ethiopia. Methods An unmatched facility-based case-control survey was conducted among pregnant women receiving antenatal care at four randomly chosen hospitals from September 1 to October 30, 2020. AOR = 3. 39, 95% CI ], and a drug [AOR = 3. 39, 95% CI ] in multivariate logistic regression increased the risk of acquiring a maternal syphilis infection in pregnant women with more than one lifetime sexual partner [AOR=3. 59, 95% CI ]; a history of sexually transmitted infections [AOR = 3. 59, 95% CI]; and a substance [AOR = 3. 39, 95% CI a ] To prevent syphilis infection, there are recommendations that include safe sexual conduct, increased risk of STIs, early detection and treatment of STIs, as well as early detection and treatment of STIs, which are all important.

Syphilis sero-positivity in recently admitted and long-term psychiatric inpatients: Screening, prevalence and diagnostic profile

Traditional syphilis screening has been described as ineffective, despite Syphilis research's neglecting the prevalence of the disease among psychiatric patients. To assess the syphilis prevalence among psychiatric patients; to compare psychiatric diagnoses of syphilis-infected and uninfected patients; to establish syphilis-infected and uninfected patients; and to investigate the results of the rapid plasma reagin test in syphilis screening relative to the Treponema pallidum haemagglutination test. There was no significant association between TPHA seropositivity and primary psychiatric diagnosis or self-reported high-risk sexual behavior. Between syphilis and HIV, there was a significant comorbidity. The RPR test performed poorly, revealing only 2/23 patients with a sero-positive TPHA test versus the TPHA version. Screening for syphilis using a single RPR test is ineffective; both RPR and TPHA tests should be performed.
