A Text-based Reduction Intervention for Smokeless Tobacco Cessation

SGR Initiative The SGR program for participants in the SGR program runs for up to 12 weeks. Group 1: SGR Program For participants in the SGR program, this course will be available for up to 12 weeks. Participants use smokeless tobacco to zero by reducing their tobacco use by 1/4th each week. The aim of this initiative is to minimize the number of times participants use smokeless tobacco to zero. If they used smokeless tobacco, participants would be expected to respond within 30 minutes after receiving the text message, and inform the research team "s" if they use smokeless tobacco. Participants will still be expected to inform the study team if they used smokeless tobacco at a later time than the time we text participants. However, if the pattern persists, participants will be called by the study coordinator to reexamine their smoking habits and reeminate your schedule. The Enough Snuff cessation manual will be sent to the control group by Group 2: Control Group Participants in the control group. Assessments from the End of Intervention and 3 and 6 Month Follow-up Reports for both study groups Participants of both study groups and six months after the baseline survey was completed. All participants will be sent a brief report about smokeless tobacco use via text at three months. A small number of participants may be required to obtain a saliva sample to check for nicotine if participants have disclosed to the study team that they have quit using smokeless tobacco.
