Phytochemical evaluation and hepatoprotective activity of Catharanthus rosea against simvastatin-induced hepatotoxicity in rats

Background: The main aim of the present research is to determine the hepatoprotective activity of ethanolic extract of Catharanthus rosea L. leaves against simvastatin-induced hepatotoxicity in rats. In Catharanthus rosea treated animals, serum glutamate phosphatase, alanine phosphatase, serum bilirubin, and total protein content all increased. Conclusion: The present research shows that the ethanolic extract of Catharanthus rosea leaves has a significant hepatoprotective activity.
