Preoperative Sonographic Prediction of Limited Axillary Disease in Patients with Primary Breast Cancer Meeting the Z0011 Criteria: an Alternative to Sentinel Node Biopsy?

Purpose: The Z0011 criteria was used to determine the validity of preoperative sonographic testing for the prediction of limited axillary disease and to determine causes associated with high predictionu2013pathology concordance in patients with early-stage breast cancer. On preoperative sonography, the accuracy of LAD prediction was checked separately for patients with one and two suspicious lymph nodes. Both groups' test validity results for LAD prediction were calculated for both groups, and a multivariate analysis was used to determine contributing factors associated with high accuracy of LAD predictions. The false-negative rate was 8 percent, according to the LAD investigators with one suspicious lymph node on preoperative ultrasound. Conclusions Sonographic axillary staging in patients with one metastatic lymph node identified by preoperative ultrasound revealed high certainty and a false-negative rate similar to sentinel node biopsy for diagnosis of limited axillary disease.

Lymphatic Mapping and Sentinel Node Biopsy in High-Grade Uterine Cancers

Purpose of Review Sentinel lymph node mapping has been used as an effective tool of lymph node evaluation in the surgical staging of low-grade endometrial cancer. The latest findings reveal that SLN mapping in high-grade endometrial cancer demonstrates similar high detection rates and diagnostic precision as seen in low-grade endometrial cancers. Summary SLN mapping is a simple and reliable method of lymph node assessment in high-grade endometrial cancer. In this patient population, long-term oncologic results between SLN mapping and systematic lymphadenectomy should be determined by prospective studies.
