EBC-SURE (exhaled breath condensate- scanning using rapid electro analytics): A non-faradaic and non-invasive electrochemical assay to screen for pro-inflammatory biomarkers in human breath condensate.

On the newly developed EBC-SURE platform as a point-of-care tool for respiratory disorder diagnosis, the key to this study lies in the trace detection of inflammatory biomarkers in human exhaled breath condensate. Target-specific biomolecular interactions for highly sensitive biomarker detection are captured by the EBC-SURE's unique form. With a recovery error of 20% and an extended dynamic range over 3-log orders, EBC-SURE's results are measured to determine the sensor's response to a known concentration by spike and recovery analysis. The lowest detection rates for IL-6 and hs-CRP detection in EBC were found to be 3. 2 pg/mL and 4 pg/mL respectively, giving the lowest detection rates for IL-6 and hs-CRP detection in EBC. We have demonstrated EBC-SURE's ability in detecting inflammatory biomarkers in human breath condensate, and we're working on developing a non-invasive method that can determine biomarker levels associated with healthy and acute inflammatory disease.

Asexual or not sure: Findings from a probability sample of undergraduate students.

At the most recent sexual gathering, compared to LGB students, Asexual students who were not sure were less likely to register engaging in solo and partnered sexual activities, as well as reporting sexual misconduct being less pleasurable. Conclusions Our findings support how college students define and experience their sexual identities, as well as support college health professionals in studying sexuality and risk factors.

Are you sure that ankle is just sprained? A review of common ankle conditions, diagnoses and treatment.

Purpose of investigation Acute ankle sprains commonly occur in young children and adolescents, but it could be the first clinical manifestation of other less common disorders impacting the lower extremities. There are several conditions that could result in one or two episodes of ankle pain that are misdiagnosed as an acute ankle sprain. Latest findings In recent years, various research has continued to point out the prevalence of misdiagnosed ankle sprains, especially amongst the paediatric population. Often the patient is diagnosed with an acute ankle sprain, as leg radiographs show no abnormalities during the initial medical examination. Summary There are several conditions that may go unnoticed in the initial assessment of a paediatric or adolescent ankle sprain. This paper will discuss five conditions that could be misdiagnosed as an ankle fracture, including juvenile idiopathic arthritis, osteochondritis dissecans of the talus, hereditary sensory motor neuropathy, tarsal alliance, and transitional ankle fractures.
