A review of the mechanisms of by-product PCB formation in pigments, dyes and paints.

The majority of existing work has concentrated on revealing the presence of the main PCBs in a variety of categories, including PCB11 and PCB209. PCB profiles in paints and pigments can be just as complicated as industrial mixings. In paint samples, 149 different PCBs were identified by this analysis. The total PCB concentrations in some paint samples can be high, with concentrations as high as 919 mg kg -1 in azo pigments. We have assembled congener profiles from 140 different samples from the open scientific literature and published this in the supplement as a useful resource for others to use in source identification applications. We also have suggested concrete methods for the production of PCBs in pigments, dyes, and paints.

Metabolism of 3-Chlorobiphenyl (PCB 2) in a Human-Relevant Cell Line: Evidence of Dechlorinated Metabolites.

In the cell culture media from HepG2 cells exposed for 24 h to 3. 6 nM PCB 2, ten metabolites belonging to 13 metabolite classes, five dechlorinated metabolites, were discovered, including five dechlorinated metabolites, five of which were attributed to five dechlorinated metabolite classes. The PCB 2 metabolite profiles differed from those obtained in samples from a previous research with PCB 11 under identical experimental conditions. A dechlorinated dihydroxylated metabolite was also present in human liver microsomal incubations with monohydroxylated PCB 2 metabolites but not PCB 2.
