Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a common arthritis disease of the joints that mostly affects older adults. Bone-bone areas that are no longer covered by cartilage rub against each other and begin to crack down. People with osteoarthritis tend to experience stiffness after periods of inactivity, such as awakening or rising from a chair; the stiffness generally increases as they move about. In some cases, severe osteoarthritis can impair mobility and the ability to perform daily activities, affecting quality of life and raising the risk of other health conditions such as cardiovascular disease. Osteoarthritis is most common in middle age or late adulthood because the joint cartilage begins to thin as people age. People who are overweight or whose occupations are particularly demanding to the joints are also at an elevated risk of osteoarthritis.
