Spatial portability of random forest models to estimate site-specific air temperature for prediction of emergence dates of the Asian Corn Borer in North Korea

Using both land surface temperature and atmospheric profile products based on MODIS satellites, we suggest an approach to determine air temperature with spatial portability. At sites in North Korea, RFALQ had higher SPI values of SPI than the other models in which either AT or LT were excluded, but at sites in North Korea. In addition, the emergence date of Asian Corn Borer was predicted with high CCC values across the study sites when RFALQ was used to collect the input data for an insect phenology model. Both LST and AP products, according to our findings, will contribute to increased spatial portability of air temperature measurement. This also suggests that a high degree of spatial portability would aid the pest models, which can be used to minimize the risk of food security in developing countries with limited weather station networks.
