Gestational Early-Time Restricted Feeding Results in Sex-Specific Glucose Intolerance in Adult Male Mice

Because TRF is on the rise of prominence and feeding may be interrupted in those who are pregnant, it is also vital to know the long-term effects of TRF during pregnancy on the resultant offspring. Both males and females from weaning to adulthood had similar offspring body composition, with minor differences in food intake in eTRF females and improved glucose tolerance in males. After ten weeks of high-fat, high sucrose diet feeding, male eTRF offspring were more sensitive to insulin, but insulin resistance was reduced in the case of impaired insulin secretion. As such, gestational eTRF has gender-specific deleterious effects on glucose homeostasis after persistent high fat, high sucrose diet feeding in male offspring. Further research is required to determine the effect of gestational eTRF on the male pancreas and on the mechanisms that shield females from this metabolic abnormality.
