Purpose Antihypertensive drugs are one of the most commonly used drugs during pregnancy. Methyldopa, labetalol, and nifedipine have been identified as safe to use during pregnancy and have therefore been included in international guidelines for hypertension treatment. We give a complete rundown of what is known about the pharmacokinetics of the antihypertensive drugs methyldopa, labetalol, and nifedipine during pregnancy in this article. No fetal deposits have been found for any of the antihypertensive medications tested. Conclusions We conclude that despite decades of prescribing methyldopa, labetalol, and nifedipine during pregnancy, estimates of their PK during pregnancy are hampered by a large number of available studies. To avoid undertreatment, overtreatment, and side effects, Aiming for evidence-based and personalized dosing of antihypertensive drugs in the future.
