Metabolic benefits of methionine restriction in adult mice do not require functional methionine sulfoxide reductase A (MsrA).

The essential amino acid methionine (methionine) plays numerous biological functions and decreasing its availability in the diet directly influences methionine metabolism. We investigated the role of the ubiquitously distributed methionine repair enzyme reductase A in mice's metabolic benefits. Using mice lacking MsrA, we investigated the extent to which MsrA is required for metabolic consequences of MR in adult mice. In addition, females had blunted MR responses regardless of MsrA status compared to males.
