Association between Serum Matrix Metalloproteinase- (MMP-) 3 Levels and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Meta-analysis

This is a systematic review of the relationship between serum MMP-3 levels and systemic lupus erythematosus infection, aimed at boosting interest in MMP-3 as a putative biomarker. We performed a meta-analysis of serum MMP-3 levels in patients with SLE and controls. We also included results from a case-control study on a national pediatric SLE cohort, in which serum MMP-3 levels were determined in 11 SLE patients and 9 controls, in addition to this. SLE patients had significantly elevated MMP-3 levels compared to healthy controls. MMP-3 levels in patients with nephritis were found to be elevated in MMP-3 in comparison to those without nephritis patients. No correlation was found between MMP-3 levels and gender or anti-double strand DNA antibody titer, according to meta-analysis. Our meta-analysis found significantly higher MMP-3 levels in SLE patients than in controls and in patients with renal involvement than those without.

Biomarker Analysis of Orally Dosed, Dual Active, Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 Inhibitor, AQU-118, in the Spinal Nerve Ligation (SNL) Rat Model of Neuropathic Pain

In the spinal nerve ligation rat model of neuropathic pain, AQU-118, an orally active inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 and MMP-9, was investigated. MMP-2, IL1-β &; IL-6; and elevated protein levels for caspase-3; as compared to sham controls. Rats who were orally dosed with AQU-118 exhibited significant reduced mechanical allodynia and reduced levels of caspase-3 in the DRG, as compared to vehicle controls.

The sonic hedgehog signaling pathway induces myopic development by activating matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 in Guinea pigs.

PURPOSE: In guinea pigs, we intend to investigate whether Sonic hedgehog signaling promotes myopic growth by raising the expression of matrix metalloproteinase -2. The remaining 100 guinea pigs were divided into 5 groups and received a 10 l intravitreal injection every two days for four days. The right eye was injected with 20 or 50 g/ml Shh amino-terminal peptide and 0. 1% bovine serum albumin into the other; the other was switched to 0. 01 bovine serum albumin. RESULTS: Both Shh-N concentrations stimulated myopic growth and axial growth in comparison to control eyes. Compared to the FDM group, the three doses of cyclopamine significantly reduced myopic growth. MMP-2 expression in Shh-N-treated eyes were significantly higher in Shh-N-treated eyes than in the control eyes, and it was much lower in the cyclopamine plus FDM groups than in the FDM group. CONCLUSIONS: By activating MMP-2 in guinea pigs, the Shh signaling pathway promotes myopic growth.

Predictive and prognostic value of Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) - 9 in neoadjuvant chemotherapy for triple-negative breast cancer patients

Abstract Background This research was published in this journal and sought to establish the clinical relevance of serum and histological MMP-9 testing during neoadjuvant chemotherapy for triple-negative breast cancer. Methods The study included a total of 303 TNBC patients who underwent weekly paclitaxel plus carboplatin treatments as well as surgical resection. The serum level of Matrix metalloproteinase-9 was determined at baseline and before surgery by Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Since NAC, immunohistochemistry was used to detect histological MMP-9 expression in patients with residual tumors. The ability of MMP-9 to predict NAC and patient survival was determined by a study. In addition, hMMP-9 expression in residual tumors was positively linked to disease-free survival for non-pCR responders in survival studies. Conclusions The results of our studies show that monitoring serum MMP-9 and detection of histological MMP-9 may help identify TNBC patients who will respond to NAC and will be at risk of disease relapse in a variety of ways.
