Numerical analysis of subgrain formation during metal cutting and rolling based on the crystal plasticity theory

Without the need of additional alloy elements, grain refinement technology is vital in improving the metallic material properties. Also when considering the same equivalent plastic strain, simulation results reveal that shear deformation in metal cutting initiates more slip systems than plane strain compression via rolling. In the following heat treatment, static recrystallization is expected to accumulate in the crystal since several slip systems are designed to encourage shear deformation and improve grain refinement by static refining.
