Nonnoble metal oxides for high‐performance Zn‐air batteries: Design strategies and future challenges

ZABs have been one of the best candidates for the new generation of electric transportation and electrical energy storage systems thanks to their inherent high theoretical energy density. However, the time od kinetics and oxygen evolution reaction kinetics of the air electrode are the single major technological obstacle to ZABs' commercialization. Scientists have concentrated on perovskite oxide catalysts due to the perovskite oxides' outstanding benefits. The ZABs' air electrode is shown, showing the basic principles of ZABs and the attempt to raise the OER/ORR activity of perovskite oxides as the basic characteristics of ZABs.

Defective/Doped Graphene‐Based Materials as Cathodes for Metal–Air Batteries

Due to their ultra-high theoretical energy density, MABs have been considered potential candidates for next-generation energy storage systems. Generally speaking, clean graphene crystalline is inert for several catalytic reactions, while imperfect graphene and heteroatoms can endow graphene with high activity for several electrocatalytic reactions. In this situation, recent progress has been summarized for defective/doped graphene as air cathodes in aqueous or organic MABs, which are in fact different electrochemical processes with distinct requirements for air cathodes. In addition, the relationship between graphene defects/doping and electrocatalytic mechanisms that may be useful in catalyst design is clarified.
