In a single step, a high-performance metal-free bifunctional catalyst is synthesized in a single step by controlling radicals inside the newly developed high-flux plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition device with in situ plasma diagnostics. Application of such VGNO to aqueous ZABs and flexible solid-state ZABs demonstrated high discharge power density and excellent cycling stability, which notably outperform ZABs using benchmarked precious-metal based catalysts.
