Genetically regulated multi-omics study for symptom clusters of posttraumatic stress disorder highlights pleiotropy with hematologic and cardio-metabolic traits.

Posttraumatic stress disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can arise as a result of a severe traumatic event and is classified by three main symptom clusters in the Diagnostic Manual of Mental Disorders. We established the biological heterogeneity of PTSD symptom clusters by doing a multi-omics investigation that combined genetically controlled gene, splicing, and protein expression in dorsolateral prefrontal cortex tissue from a sample of veterans of the Million Veterans Program in the United States. In addition, we checked for local genetic correlations across PTSD symptom clusters, which highlighted metabolic and laboratory characteristics.
