Background: Patients with bipolar disorder are at a high risk of becoming obese. However, few studies have looked at the correlations between depression and leptin, adiponectin, and resistin levels in patients with bipolar disorder. We investigated the relationships between leptin, adiponectin, and resistance in patients with bipolar disorder, as well as mood and metabolic status. In 94 Korean patients with bipolar disorder, body mass index and serum leptin, adiponectin, and resistin levels were tested. Leptin and adiponectin levels were higher in female than in male patients. Patients with leptin were also elevated in adiponectin and resistancein levels in the two groups relative to euthymic patients, but there was no significant difference in adiponectin and resistin levels between the two groups. After adjusting for age, gender, and BMI in the MANCOVA, leptin levels were also elevated in depressed patients than in euthymic patients.

AD patients' comorbidity of eating and sleeping disorders can be attributed to several of these areas. Inadequate sleep improves the neurodegenerative process, for example, the decrease of slow-wave sleep impairs clearance of u03b2-amyloid peptide and tau protein from cerebral interstitial fluid. Even in preclinical stages where patients have no cognitive impairment, Cerebrospinal fluid melatonin levels decrease, indicating that CSF reduction of melatonin could be a early sign of oncoming AD. The Melatonin administration increases the glymphatic clearance of A-3B2 and reduces the generation and deposition of Au03b2 in transgenic animal models of AD. Although melatonin trials in AD's clinical phase failed to produce or showed only modest positive effects on cognition, in the pre-diabetic phase of dementia, the effect of melatonin is evident with substantial improvement in sleep and quality of life.

The growing prevalence and high comorbidity of metabolic syndrome and mental health disorders have prompted an inquiry into the potential contributing factors. Both MetS and MHDs, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and autism spectrum disorders have been shown in bidirectional correlations, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and autism spectrum disorders. MetS in pregnant women also exposes the developing fetal brain to the inflammatory factors that predispose the offspring to MetS and psychopathologies. Due to the shared occurrence of these disorders, medical health and metabolic disorders can be addressed simultaneously.

The Methylation Status in the Chromosome 11p15.5 Region and Metabolic Disorders in Children with Syndromic and Nonsyndromic Intrauterine Growth Restriction

In patients with Silver-Russell syndrome, which is characterized by asymmetric pre- and postnatal growth restriction and typical craniofacial characteristics, the loss of methylation of the imprinting control region 1 in the chromosome 11p15. 5 domain is present. Adult metabolic difficulties are common among the patients with intrauterine growth restriction. In 14 of 33 of 33 suspected SRS patients with 3 or more symptoms of NHCS, four of whom had borderline LoM, 5 of whom had borderline LoM. While clinical results were similar in patients with LoM and borderline LoM of ICR1, typical craniofacial findings were significantly less in patients with normal methylation. We would like to emphasize that finding regular facial patterns in the diagnosis of SRS is helpful, and that paying attention to metabolic abnormalities in the follow-up of patients with IUGR is recommended.

Development, Validation and Application of Tandem Mass Spectrometry for Screening of Inborn Metabolic Disorders in Kuwaiti Infants

Objective: This research was designed to develop a specific and validated tandem mass spectrometric system for the testing of amino acidopathies, organic acidurias, urine cycle disorders, and fatty acid oxidation defects in Kuwaiti newborns and sick infants. Inborn metabolic disorders in Kuwaiti newborns and sick infants were detected by a total of 1,520 blood samples. After simple extraction and derivatization steps, positive electrospray MS/MS was used to determine diagnostic acylcarnitines and amino acids in blood spots. In a group of 500 normal Kuwaiti babies undergoing quantitative analysis, the diagnostic metabolites' reference and cutoff levels were established. Conclusions: Tandem mass spectrometry can significantly contribute to a newborn screening program as a fast and precise diagnostic tool for the identification of a variety of inborn metabolic disorders.
