Abstract Untargeted metabolomics is a global molecular profiling technique that can be used to look for inborn metabolic abnormalities. We employed CTD, an automated diagnostic method that “c onnects he d ots” between metabolite fluctuations observed in individual metabolomics profiling results and modules identified in disease-specific metabolomics co-perturbation networks derived from prior profiling results. To provide additional network-quantified predictors for use in diagnosis, we also expanded CTD to determine distances between any two people and between an individual and a disease state. CTD can raise the speed and stability by which clinical laboratory directors make diagnostic and treatment decisions by automating and analyzing perturbation patterns, as well as increasing success with new case studies.
