Metabolic Diet for Relapse Prevention in Anorexia Nervosa

"The research sought to enroll a total of 20 students from the broader New York City area into an 8-week eating behavior program. " Of the 20, ten will be weight-restored patients with anorexia nervosa, while the other ten will be age-, sex-, and body mass index matched healthy controls. Following the first two individual study visits, participants will be able to begin Metabolic Diet, and the primary intervention lasts for eight weeks. Each participant will keep a food log and measure the urinary ketones at home, which they will discuss with the study researchers during weekly visits as part of their rehabilitation. Each subject will consult with the Study Dietician and the Study Physician on a weekly basis. "Perhaps the most tangible sign of immune dysfunction as a result of metabolic disorder is the deficiency of adenosine deaminase severe combined immunodeficiency. " Although some other metabolic disorders can result in SCID, ADA deficiency causes an intracellular accumulation of deoxyadenosine, which, among other things, can cause confusion with the VDJ rearrangement that is required for proper lymphocyte function and contributes to cell apoptosis. T cells, dendritic cells, and macrophages are also known to influence the function of macrophages, dendritic cells, and macrophages. This new research has also shown that metabolic reprogramming gives innate immune cells a form of memory that was previously thought to be exclusive to the adaptive immune system. This protocol will reveal how these immune deficiencies influence wound healing and tissue repair in addition to genetic signatures associated with immune defects. Our recent research shows that metabolic imbalance downstream of STAT3 may lead to reduced wound healing in patients with autosomal dominant hyperimmunoglobulin E syndrome or atopic dermatitis as well as in keloid scarring disorder. In patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, investigators will use a metabolic tracing technique to quantitatively identify metabolic signatures and fuel preferences of leukemic lymphocytes. Investigators test the hypothesis that leukemic lymphocytes have tissue-specific metabolic preferences that differ from non-leukemic lymphocytes and that ex vivo in-plasma labeling, which is a common model for assaying metabolic activity in leukemic cells in a patient-specific manner. ".

Effects of Metabolic Surgery on Alcohol Pharmacokinetics

"The investigation will include alcohol testing in a controlled laboratory setting to people who are scheduled for Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, and then asking them to return for another laboratory session 3 months afterward. No research has investigated whether the increased sensitivity to alcohol as a result of MS changes cue-reactivity reactions, which may possibly indicate an individual's ability to assign alcohol intake to its subjective effects. Infusion also has the same blood alcohol content as oral ingestion, but with significantly less total alcohol consumption. Following the theory, infusion will be associated with less liver fat production in comparison to oral ingestion, while simultaneously mimicking in pre-surgery patients what the investigators see with oral ingestion following surgery.
