A mechanistic mathematical model of initiation and malignant transformation in sporadic vestibular schwannoma

Background The vestibular schwannoma is a rare, benign tumor of the eighth cranial nerve, often involving mutations of the gene NF2 gene. In Schwann cells, this result has resulted in new estimates for the base-pair mutation rate u = 4. 48 u211210 and the rate of LOH = 2. 03 u00d7 10'u22126/yr. Discussion We conclude that radiotherapy is likely to have a negligible excess risk of malignancy for sporadic versus sporadic VS, with the possible exception of rapidly growing tumors.

Prediction of malignant transformation and recurrence of oral epithelial dysplasia using architectural and cytological feature specific prognostic models

Oral epithelial dysplasia is a precursor state that has long preceded oral squamous cell carcinoma. We investigate whether individual OED histological characteristics can be used to design and evaluate prognostic models for malignant transition and recurrence prediction. Three expert pathologists evaluated a cohort of 109 OED cases, where the presence and agreement of architectural and cytological histological characteristics was determined, while clinical outcomes were analyzed using Cox proportional hazards regression and Kaplan-Meier curves were investigated. U20186-point modelu2019 using the six features with a higher statistical correlation with change and recurrence, as well as a u2018two-point model u2019 using the six features that have a greater statistical correlation with transformation and recurrence, as well as a u2019 two-point model u2019 using the six features that have the highest inter-pathologist agreement. For the first time, these results show a correlation between individual OED histological characteristics and prognosis.
