BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome

BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome sufferers have growths in the skin that are characteristic Spitz tumors. Skin cancers are also attributed to BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome, such as cutaneous melanoma and basal cell carcinoma. The most common BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome is a uveal melanoma. Although uveal melanoma does not usually cause any symptoms, several people with this disease may have blurred vision; small, moving dots or flashes of light in their vision; headaches; or a prominent dark spot on the eye. People with BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome are at risk of developing malignant mesothelioma, which is a form of mesothelium cancer. Malignant mesothelioma most commonly occurs in the skin that lines the abdomen and covers the abdominal organs, when associated with BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome. Clear cell renal cell carcinoma, a specific of kidney cancer, is also associated with the condition. Researchers are still trying to figure out whether other forms of cancer are related to BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome. When they are present in people with BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome, cancers tend to appear at a younger age and are often more aggressive than cancer in the general population. The cancerous tumors in BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome tend to spread to other areas of the body. However, people with malignant mesothelioma as part of the BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome tend to live longer than those without the condition.
