" The mevalonate pathway is the intracellular pathway linked to cholesterol synthesis, and several studies have demonstrated that this pathway is essential for Treg stability and suppressive activity. High cholesterol levels in the extracellular environment may lead to extensive cholesterol buildup inside the cell, therefore impairing nutrients sensors and blocking the mevalonate pathway. This review summarizes the latest research on the role of circulating and cellular cholesterol metabolism in Treg metabolism and function. "In particular, we'll explore how different pathological conditions that affect cholesterol transport could influence Tregs' cellular metabolism. ".
