Efficacy and expenses of succimer vs. d-penicillamine plus garlic in the treatment of lead poisoning: a retrospective cross-sectional study

Lead poisoning is a significant health issue in Iran, according to a Purpose Lead Poisoning is a common health issue. In outpatients with lead poisoning, we wanted to compare the effectiveness of a standard regimen with that of a low-priced blend of D-penicillamine and Garlic. Methods In this retrospective cross-sectional study, year-long medical records of outpatients with lead poisoning in two referral toxicology clinics in Mashhad, Iran, were reviewed. DPN + Gar was used by DPN + Gar, and 37 got Succimer, giving an overall score of 79 male patients, 42 of whom were treated by DPN + Gar and 37 received Succimer. Before treatment, the mean BLL of the DPN + Gar group was higher than that of the Succimer group, meaning that the Succimer group's mean BLL was higher than that of the Succimer group. Succimer's 19-day treatment was approximately 28. 6 times more expensive than a one-month course of garlic plus DPN therapy. Conclusion Combination therapy with DPN+Gar is as effective as Succimer in Pb poisoning, as Succimer in Pb poisoning, but Succimer treatment with Succimer is much more expensive.
