GH1-family 6-P-β-glucosidases from human microbiome lactic acid bacteria

The graft crystal structures of GH1 6-P-glucosidases from Lactobacillus plantarum and Streptococcus plantarum and Streptococcus mutans and their intricate ligand complexes are shown here. The LpPbg1 structure has been determined in both an apo form and a complex with phosphate and a glucose molecule corresponding to the aglycon molecule. In the phosphate-dedicated subcavity, the S. mutans homolog contains a sulfate ion. The exact structure of a 6'-P-salicin complex has also been determined for a mutated version of the S. mutans enzyme.
