Disentangling the Contribution of Moisture Source Change to Isotopic Proxy Signatures: Deuterium Tracing with WRF-Hydro-Iso-Tag and Application to Southern African Holocene Sediment Archives

Abstract Abstract: It is well understood that global circulation models equipped with stable water isotopologues aid in better understanding the correlations between atmospheric circulation shifts and isotope data in paleoclimate archives. In addition, the realism of the model-based isotope results should support the interpretation of proxy results in terms of modeled climate change. WRF-Hydro-tag's online simulation simulates lower precipitation amounts with more geographical information, as well as mid-Holocene-to-pre-industrial changes in precipitation isotopic compositions off the Orange and Limpopo River basins that better match plant-wax deuterium data from two marine sediment cores off the Orange and Limpopo River basins, as compared to the global model. A deuterium enrichment in the Orange River-related sediment core may not be due to an aridification process, but a summer circulation change has resulted in the addition of more isotopically enriched moisture from the Atlantic Ocean.

ISO 9004 - A stimulating quality management standard for the creative leaders of contemporary sustainable organizations

Abstract: Companies can only provide organizations with challenging prospects if they know the intended goals and features of those standards and incorporate them creatively and seamlessly into their company management. This discursive essay explores the ISO 9004 quality management standard, one of the international management guidelines, and it can be used to many types of businesses. The authors discuss how ISO 9004 can be regarded as the most challenging component of the ISO 9000 series of QM requirements. However, many companies, which have not confirmed the differences and similarities between the ISO 9004 and ISO 9001 requirements, still use the ISO 9000 specifications in ineffective ways, causing them not to use the standards' potential benefits. Each organization has its own and continually existing QM initiative, which cannot be separated from company administration and can be continuously improved according to the organization's market growth policies and practices. Based on the authors' experience, QM goals can be achieved and developed in the most effective way by the learning organization's values and practices. Organizations also use other well-known managerial references, such as success assurance models and a variety of organizational structure standards for the specific industries in addition to the ISO 9000 requirements. ISO 9004 also can be used for various TQM and sustainability projects.
