Cohort Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) Pediatric Protocol

"u2022Primary Aim: To identify participants with hepatitis B virus infection in a prospective cohort in the United States and Canada and determine predictors of disease outbreaks and outbreak progression in participants with HBV in the United States and Canada, as well as predictors of disease activation and transmission Secondary Aims: To identify disease-inhibition and progression in participants with HBV in the United States and Canada. To examine the changes in HBV infection status and hepatitis B surface antigen levels and factors that are associated with those changes. "The Hepatitis B Research Network will search pediatric patients from 2 years to 18 years of age with chronic HBV infection for potential inclusion in treatment study. ".

Chronic Hepatitis B Virus Infection in Zambia: a Prospective Clinical Cohort Study

"Chronic viral hepatitis is caused by hepatitis C virus and hepatitis B virus, and these infections are most prevalent in low and middle-income countries, particularly Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. " The investigators will recruit 500 adults with persistent HBV infection in Zambia and collect local data to guide policymakers, and then follow the cohort in an observational cohort study to raise the burden of viral hepatitis in Zambia and help with local reporting. The investigators will carefully describe patient clinical characteristics and among those who receive opioid therapy, and among those who receive opioid therapy, the investigators will discuss the results of the therapy in reducing liver disease. ".

Withdrawal of Therapy After Long-Term Oral Nucleos(t)Ide Analogue Treatment in Patients With Chronic Hepatitis B

In the United States, five oral antiviral agents have been approved for use in chronic hepatitis B. " In the six months leading up to withdrawal, we suggest stopping therapy in up to 50 patients with both HBeAg positive and zero persistent chronic hepatitis B who have completed less than 500 IU/ml oral nucleoside therapy and a serum HBV DNA level less than 500 IU/ml. The primary endpoint of the study will be the percentage of patients with an HBV DNA value of 1,000 IU/ml and a serum ALT or AST that is 1. 5 times higher than average one year off therapy. Patients with HBeAg loss and clear HBsAg one year off therapy, the number of patients with AHt or AST flares, predictors of persistent virological suppression and HBeAg negativity, and the proportion of patients who require re-initiation of therapy will be the proportion of patients with HBeAg loss and clear HBsAg versus therapy.

The Use of Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF) in the Management of Patients With Inactive Chronic Hepatitis B (CHB) Infection

"Hepatitis B virus infection is a common worldwide health issue. " The majority of patients with chronic hepatitis B is benign, so the new treatment guidelines recommend not treating these patients. Also, approximately 20-30 percent of patients with chronic hepatitis B may have spontaneous reactivation of hepatitis over time. In patients with chronic hepatitis B infection, potent oral antivirals have been shown to reduce HBV DNA and normalize liver enzymes. Some of these patients have gone on to clear hepatitis B surface antigen and establish hepatitis B surface antibodies, which has continued long-term therapy. In patients with chronic hepatitis B, this review will investigate the potential use of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate in monitoring HBV DNA and promoting hepatitis B surface antigen seroconversion in patients with inactive chronic hepatitis B.

The Natural History of Liver Disease in a Cohort of Participants With Hepatitis B and/or Hepatitis C With or Without HIV Infection

"The immunosuppressed population, particularly those with HIV, is at a high risk of hepatocellular carcinoma in the United States and worldwide, with high rates in those that are cirrhotic, and it is the tenth most common cause of death in the United States. " HIV-hepatitis coinfection is particularly problematic because HIV patients are now on highly effective antiretroviral therapy, leading to cirrhosis and hepatitis failure. With a focus on those living in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, the primary aim of the current research is to determine viral liver disease and factors affecting the natural history of viral liver disease in people with and without HIV. HBV and HCV disease infection in HIV-infected subjects is one of the primary goals of the study.

PrEP, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Contraception, Hepatitis B Virus, and Sexual Health for Female Sex Workers in Côte d'Ivoire

"PRINCESSE is a single-arm interventional cohort of 500 female sex workers in San Pedro, Cote d'Ivoire" says the author. It comes as a result of the introduction of a complete sexual and reproductive health care service for female sex workers in C'u00f4te d'Ivoire, which includes HIV+ FSW diagnosis and prevention, diagnosis and prevention of sexually transmitted infections and their consequences, a condom or abortion service, periodic testing of pregnancies, and identification of addiction. Assess the a priori acceptability and appropriateness of various types of long-acting PrEP for various sex workers' profiles. In-depth interviews with female sex workers recruited by Aprosam and Espace Confiance about long-acting PrEP; gathering medical and occupational data of HIV+ FSW patients not participating in the programme; in-depth interviews with key informants in the FSW community; and individual interviews with community actors; and customizing studies with community actors.

A Maternal Short Course of Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate and Infant Vaccine to Prevent Mother-to-child Transmission of Hepatitis B Virus

"Pregnant women with HBsAg and HBeAg will be given tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300 mg once a day from 28 weeks of pregnancy to two months postpartum. " The research shows that substituting maternal antiviral therapy for infant HBIg can be favorably considered in settings where HBIg plus vaccine has been used as well as in settings where only vaccination is used. Adding an antiviral program results in less than 2% transmission is likely to be a significant improvement over the standard HBIg+ vaccine program.
