Effects of hCG on DA neuronal death of Parkinson's disease.

Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease worldwide, with the incidence in males being about twice as high as compared to women. hCG in PD patients has limited movement-related problems. We examined the possibility of hCG as a treatment during PD progression in this research. In the substantia n. . . . , we found that hCG restored the decrease in LHCGR activity caused by down-regulation of LH in the substantia n. . . . following the establishment of 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine -induced PD mouse strains. Moreover, the decrease of LHCGR activity in DA neurons by AAV-mTH-shRNA contributed to DA neuronal death by knocking down the LHCGR in DA neurons. The DA neuronal death induced by MPTP was reduced by therapy with hCG. These results reveal that hCG has neuroprotective properties for PD via LHCGR, and that inhibition of GSK3u03b2 activation is involved in this protective effect, indicating that hCG can be used as a potential therapeutic for Parkinson's disease treatment.
