Glanzmann thrombasthenia

Glanzmann thrombosthenia is a bleeding disorder that is characterized by persistent or spontaneous bleeding beginning from birth. They may also have red or purple spots on the skin caused by bleeding underneath the skin or tissue swelling resulting from bleeding within tissues. Following injury, burnout, or surgery, Glanzmann thrombosthenia can also result in prolonged bleeding. During pregnancy and childbirth, affected women also have an elevated risk of increased blood loss during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The severity and frequency of the bleeding episodes in Glanzmann thrombasthenia can differ greatly among affected individuals, even within the same family.
