Functional genomics of reproduction in pigs: Are we there yet?

"Reproductive failure is the leading reason for culling females in swine herds, and it is both a financial and sustainability issue. " While reproductive traits are intricate and lowly to moderately heritable, population genetic variation can lead to significant genetic improvement in reproductive quality. A better understanding of the hormonal factors that influence the expression of these traits will help increase understanding of the genes that influence reproductive characteristics, which will help identify breeding strategies that can help ensure reproductive success of gilts and sows. Sequence imputation and genotype by sequence are two recenter methods that may lead to new functional mutations. ".

Functional genomics screening identifies aspartyl‐tRNA synthetase as a novel prognostic marker and a therapeutic target for gastric cancers

"In this research, we conducted NGS-u2010 based functional genomics analysis for human GC cell lines using an originally built 6,399 shRNA library that contains all 2,096 human metabolism genes. " Patients with elevated expression levels of DARS protein in combination with public databases revealed more advanced clinicopathological characteristics and a poor prognosis, particularly among diffuse-type GC patients. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments established that DARS inhibition led to widespread cell growth suppression. In addition, RNA equencing of GC cell lines under shRNA-mediated DARS knockdown revealed that DARS inhibition exerts its influence by the inactivation of several pu2010ERK pathways. DARS inhibition's growth suppression by DARS inhibition in other cancers will also be applicable to other cancers; as a result, it is imperative to investigate the prevalence and clinical significance of DARS in a variety of malignancies.
