Aromatase deficiency

Aromatase deficiency is a medical disorder that is characterized by reduced levels of female sex hormone estrogen and elevated amounts of male sex hormone testosterone. Females with aromatase deficiency have a traditional female chromosome pattern, but they are also born with external genitalia that do not appear to be female or male. Men with this disease have a common male chromosome pattern and are born with male external genitalia. Bone mineralization of bones and bone thinning can lead to bone fractures without fear. Males and females with aromatase deficiency can have abnormally elevated blood sugar levels because the body does not respond appropriately to insulin. Even though they do not have the condition, women who are pregnant with fetus deficiency have mild signs of the condition.

Aromatase excess syndrome

Both males and females exhibit aromatase excess syndrome, which is characterized by elevated levels of the female sex hormone estrogen estrogen. Breast enlargement in late childhood or adolescence is common among males with aromatase excess syndrome. In both males and females with aromatase excess syndrome, the ability to have children is usually normal.
