The investigation looked at the apparent gender and race present in website photographs of selected post-secondary institutions with accredited engineering programs. This finding highlights the lack of emphasis on racial representation in marketing literature and results in inaccurate representations of the engineering student population's racial diversity. Civil engineering graduates must be able to solve socioeconomic, environmental, and engineering problems as well as engineering problems. Arguments have appeared that Problem Based Learning in engineering education in general and particularly in civil engineering could help students engage in learning effectively and become competent. However, PBL in engineering or civil engineering education in South Africa is not widespread. The research sought to establish a methodological framework in order to ensure that PBL can be successfully implemented and delivered in undergraduate civil engineering education in South Africa's universities. The research focused on the action learning research framework and perceptions of various stakeholders that participated in PBL programs. Findings indicate that five sequential steps in each stage will help with the efficient and successful introduction of the PBL and learning outcomes.

The first seismology perspective is given by describing plate tectonics and its numerical estimation along with applications. On describing seismic waves and their propagation from a medium, the causes of earthquake in the Himalayan subduction zone are discussed. The discussion of infrastructure resilience pave the way for earthquake disaster response. Consequently, ongoing attempts in establishing a performance-based seismic analysis have been expanded upon. Following this, several of the latest dynamic response modification services have been shown in greater detail, including different types of dampers, tuned mass dampers, seismic base isolation systems, and new seismic protection techniques. This chapter includes both structural control algorithms and recent techniques thereof, in the case of the semi-active control systems. For students and researchers, the need for future earthquake engineering research has been highlighted.
