Breath sulfides and pulmonary function in cystic fibrosis

In the breath of a group of cystic fibrosis patients and one of healthy controls, we've determined the quantities of carbonyl sulfide, dimethylsulfide, and carbon disulfide. Time-coincident concentrations in exhaled breath air were reduced for each subject. OCS revealed the most significant differences in these breath-minus-room values between the CF and control cohorts in these breath-minus-room estimates. Patients in three CF patients exhaled more OCS than they inhaled from the room. The OCS concentrations in the CF cohort were highly correlated with pulmonary function, according to pulmonary function. People with a net CS 2 concentrations ranged from +180 to -100 pptv. The occurrence of persistent bacterial infections in CF is often associated with Lung disease in CF. According to our findings, breath sulfide content, a noninvasive indicator of respiratory colonization, is a noninvasive marker of respiratory colonization.
