Primary macronodular adrenal hyperplasia

Multiple lumps in the adrenal glands, which are small hormone-producing glands on the roof of each kidney, are a characteristic of primary macronodular hyperplasia. These nodules, which often are found in both adrenal glands and differ in size, cause adrenal gland growth and result in the production of higher-than-normal amounts of the hormone cortisol. However, some people with PMAH do not have these signs and symptoms, and are thought to have subsided Cushing syndrome.
