Protective Effect of Some Essential Oils Against Gamma-Radiation Damages in Tetrahymena pyriformis Exposed to Cobalt-60 Source.

The primary aim of this research was to find the protective action of Rosmarinus officinalis, Origanum compactum, Lavandula angustifolia, and Eucalyptus globulus essential oils against gamma-radiation-induced injuries on Tetrahymena pyriformis growing in the presence of a cobalt-60 source. Hence, the addition of EOs greatly improves the growth rates in irradiating conditions. Compared to the controls, all EOs enabled growth parameters over more than 90%. T. pyriformis cells growing in irradiating conditions were able to recover their normal form in the presence of the different EOs, according to morphological analysis. Our findings show that the 4 EOs also have protective effects on certain metabolic enzymes. Compared to R. officinalis and E. globulus EOs, a more pronounced protective effect was found for O. compactum and L. angustifolia EOs. These findings reveal that the studied EOs are potent natural antioxidants that may provide protection against gamma-radiation-induced injuries and can also be useful in clinical medicine.

A Dosimetric evaluation of a high dose rate cobalt-60 brachytherapy source using shielded, single and multi-channel cylinder applicators for gynecological cancers.

Vaginal brachytherapy is a common treatment for preventing malignancy recurrences in the treatment of gynecological cancers. Both cases of a one-sided CTV and two CTVs placed on both sides of the vain are considered in order to properly compare the shielded applicator's results with multichannel and single channel applicators. According to statistical results, the multichannel applicator, D 0. 1cc, D 1cc, and D 2cc, which represent a significant dose reduction in bladder relative to single channel. In television, the results reveal that using a multichannel applicator in vaginal high dose rate cobalt-60 source brachytherapy can minimize the received dose to organs at risk without any significant loss of received dose, which is due to its asymmetric or symmetric dose distribution that differs from which channels are enabled.

Estimation of linear and mass attenuation coefficients of soy-lignin bonded Rhizophora spp. particleboard as a potential phantom material using caesium-137 and cobalt-60.

Using 137 Cs and 60 Co radiation sources, linear and mass attenuation coefficients of fabricated particleboards intended for use as phantom material were estimated in this report. Wood trunks bonded with soy flour and lignin were made at a target density of 1. 0 g cm -3, with and without gloss finish coating, with and without gloss finish coating. The percentage differences between the measured and simulated linear and mass attenuation coefficients of the samples' samples were quite small. As the attenuation coefficients measured were in good agreement with those of water and those simulated with the GATE toolkit, it has been shown that all the particleboards have the capability to be used as phantom materials. The use of gloss finish coating also had no effect on the phantom material's attenuation coefficient. Based on the findings of this research, it is concluded that the tested material was Rhizophora spp.
