Effects of Chiropractic Care on Pro- and Anti-inflammatory Cytokine Levels in Multiple Sclerosis

With appropriate SM and Sham SM treatment groups, the investigators intend to conduct a pilot parallel-group random controlled trial. The SM and Sham SM group's 8 office visits will be scheduled over a period of four weeks. The Sham-SM will be delivered by turning the expansion control knob on an Activator II device to the zero position and sticking it on the clinician's dorsal thumb surface. At 20 minutes and 2 hours post-SM and compared to baseline results, we will investigate the immediate and summative effects of SM on pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory plasma cytokine levels at 20 minutes and 2 hours post-SM and compared to baseline controls. These secondary outcomes will be monitored before the start of therapy and after completion of 8 spinal manipulation therapies over a period of 4 weeks 2 visits per week.

Measurement of Heart Rate Variability During Chiropractic Maintenance Care: Relationship Between Chiropractic Care and Autonomic Nervous System Regulation

Heart rate variability in healthy male adults is determined by a pragmatic feasibility study comparing the effects of chiropractic care versus a control group, no chiropractic care. Both groups of the research will be healthy controls, as the aim of the investigation is to determine the effects, if any, of chiropractic care on physiological function as opposed to pain management. Hypomobility is a condition that can cause segmental abnormalities in the spine and cascading neuro-endocrine responses to biomechanical stress of the spinal segments, hypomobility [1, 2]. For eight weeks, Control subjects will be asked to avoid chiropractic care. e. g. , All participants will be asked to maintain their current lifestyle habits for the remainder of the study period. Prior to starting the intervention phase of the study, there will be a baseline week of HRV data. An increase in HRV of at least 6. 5% from baseline to 8 weeks without a concomitant change in the control group will provide preliminary findings on chiropractic care and autonomic nervous system functions. Subjects in the intervention group who do not attend at least four planned chiropractic visits will be barred from the study. Subjects in the control group who receive more than two chiropractic treatments will be excluded from the study. Implications for female health and future research are provided by a systematic review and meta-analysis of within-person shifts in cardiac vaping activity throughout the menstrual cycle.
