Air–breathing behavior underlies the cell death in limbs of Rana pirica tadpoles

Rana pirica : Here, we investigated whether airu2013breathing activity underlies cell death in aquatic tadpoles of the frog species Rana pirica limbs. R. pirica tadpoles die cell death in their legs, which is likely to be exacerbated by oxidative stress in their regular airu2013breathing behavior, according to our experimental study.

Intracellular and extracellular acid-base regulation in the tropical fresh-water teleost fish Synbranchus marmoratus in response to the transition from water breathing to air breathing

RESTRACT A significant increase in arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide from 5 mmHg to water breathing is caused by decrease in oxygen partial pressure in the aquatic water below 16 mmHg on the average. An increase in arterial pH by 0 to 76 units is not compensated for by an increase in plasma bicarbonate concentration, but white skeletal muscle and heart muscle's intracellular pH remain almost unchanged by increase in intracellular bicarbonate level. Intracellular non-bicarbonate buffering of blood and net transfer of bicarbonate from buffering in blood into the extra bicarbonate layer. Only a modest amount of bicarbonate is taken up from drinking water.
