Collection of differentiation 166 or activated leukocyte cell adhesion molecule is a transmembrane molecule understood to be an intercellular adhesion element. ALCAM expression in 45 patients with MB was assessed by immunohistochemical analysis of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded medical samplings and the relationship between ALCAM expression and pathological type/molecular subgroup, such as WNT, SHH, Group 3, and Group 4, was examined. All seven instances of the WNT molecular subgroup were ALCAM favorable and ALCAM expression strongly associated with this subgroup. ALCAM silencing did not impact survival or the formation of leptomeningeal circulation in an orthotopic mouse design, but did generate a malignant phenotype with increased lump cell intrusion at the dissemination sites. We showed that the cell kinetics of MB cell lines can be altered by the expression of ALCAM.
