Visualizing Heterogeneity of Monodisperse CdSe Nanocrystals by Their Assembly into Three-Dimensional Supercrystals

We show that the self-assembly of monodisperse nanocrystals synthesized at lower temperatures into three-dimensional supercrystals resulted in the development of distinct regions within the supercrystals that exhibit photoluminescence at two distinct wavelengths. Particularly, the central portions of the supercrystals of the spectrum, around 585 nm, displaying photoluminescence and absorption in the orange region of the spectrum, relative to the 575 nm photoluminescence maximum for the nanocrystals dispersed in toluene.

Effect of Surface Stoichiometry on Blinking and Hole Trapping Dynamics in CdSe Nanocrystals

Here, we investigate the photoinduced carrier dynamics as the surface composition of CdSe nanocrystals is remarkably varied from metal rich to nearly stoichiometric. We find that the luminescence lifetime is controlled by the rate of hole trapping at the newly exposed surface selenium atoms using time-resolved optical spectroscopy. However, the decreased photoluminescence quantum yield is not sufficient to explain the reduced photoluminescence quantum yield, and a growing number of nanocrystals in a “OFF” state are required to display the results.
