However, the specific stages of liver development affected by C/ebpu03b1 loss are uncertain. We show that activation of the cebpa gene by TALENs results in a small liver phenotype using the zebrafish embryo as a model organism. C/ebpu03b1 deficiency promotes increased cell proliferation and subsequent increased cell apoptosis as a result of increased cell apoptosis. The hepatic defect in cebpa mutants can be largely reversed by p53, suggesting that C/ebp01 plays a role in liver growth regulation via the p53 pathway.

Following BaCl 2 and CTX injuries, we investigated the inflammatory reaction in myoblasts and found that the levels of interleukin-1 u03b2, a proinflammatory cytokine, were robustly elevated. We found that C/EBP u03b2 expression in SCs and myoblasts of tumor-bearing cachectic animals increased in C/EBP u03b2 expression as a model for chronic inflammation. The promotion of C/EBP u03b2 expression by IL-1 u03b2 after muscle injury and in cancer cachexia has been shown to promote SC survival, and it is therefore a shield against SCs and myoblasts in the face of inflammation.

Cellular helper cells have been recently identified as a distinct T cell subset essential in germinal center reactions. T cells from Cebpa-deficient CD4+ T cells exhibit enhanced IFN-u03b3 expression in vitro and in vivo. Following immunization with a protein Ag, T cell-specific Cebpa knockout mice, although not defective in Tfh cell generation, have significantly elevated levels of IgG2a/b and IgG3. Our study also shows that C/EBPu03b1 controls IFN-u03b3 expression in T cells, which enables proper class switching by B cells.
