Catheter-directed thrombolysis for deep vein thrombosis: 2021 update

Randomized trials evaluating CDT's first-line use of proximal DVT have revealed that CDT does not produce a significant decrease in the occurrence of post-thrombotic syndrome, nor is it suitable for elderly patients or those with limited thrombus presence or significant risk factors for bleeding. However, CDT does provide a solution to health-related quality of life to select patients with acute iliofemoral DVT improvement in reducing early DVT symptoms, as well as a decrease in PTS severity and a decrease in early DVT symptoms.

The Outcome of Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis in COVID-19-Associated Deep Vein Thrombosis

During the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India, twenty-nine adult patients who were COVID -19 positive and treated for Deep Vein Thrombosis were treated for Deep Vein Thrombosis. In COVID-positive patients, the study was designed to examine patient demographics of patients with DVT and the results of Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis. Patients with DVT who were either COVID positive or not so COVID positive were monitored at the institution of the first two authors and were included in this retrospective review. After going Covid negative, one patient developed DVT after becoming Covid negative, and the average time of presentation from being COVID positive was 17. 8 3. 6 days. With positive outcomes and a commendable post-intervention Villalta rating in this, authors' observational data, the authors' results suggest that CDT could be offered to COVID positive patients with symptomatic Iliofemoral DVT with positive results and a good post-intervention Villalta score.
