We wanted to find out whether carpal tunnel release during basal joint arthroplasty is as safe as a two-incision technique in patients with concomitant carpal tunnel syndrome and basal thumb joint osteoarthritis. Four versus zero patients in the double-incision group experiencing pillar pain prompted similar, gradual improvement in all symptom-, function-, and pain-related outcomes, with mean surgery time significantly shorter for the single-incision approach.
