Effectiveness of red yeast rice on carotid atherosclerosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis

The results are inconsistent, although several studies have demonstrated the preventive and therapeutic effects of red yeast rice, a traditional Chinese medicine, on carotid atherosclerosis by the reduction of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol level and other risk factors. This research sought to investigate the effects of RYR in carotid atherosclerosis. Several databases were searched for original trials of RYR for the treatment of carotid atherosclerosis that had reported plaque characteristics. Following RYR therapy, the difference between the control group, AREA, IMT, SCORE, LDL-C, triglyceride, and total cholesterol were significantly reduced, and HDL-C was much higher than that of the control group, AREA, IMT, SCORE, LDL-C, triglyceride, and total cholesterol were significantly reduced, and HDL-C was noticeably elevated following t trig Heterogeneities primarily occurred in the treatment time or control group setting. For all measures except for TC and HDL-C, we found that RYR therapy had high success and an acceptable safety profile for the treatment of carotid atherosclerosis in the Chinese population.

Prevalence of Microalbuminuria and Its Association with Subclinical Carotid Atherosclerosis in Middle Aged, Nondiabetic, Low to Moderate Cardiovascular Risk Individuals with or without Hypertension

Monocyte Phenotypes and Physical Activity in Patients with Carotid Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is characterized by low-grade inflammation involving circulating monocytes. It has been reported that intermediate pro-inflammatory monocyte levels are associated with cardiovascular disease and risk of ischemic stroke. We investigated the effect of PA on the circulating monocyte phenotype rate in this cross-sectional research. A total of 29 patients with a carotid stenosis > 50% were recruited. Compared to non-active and highly mobile patients, there was a significant decline in the number of classical and intermediate monocytes in moderately active patients. In moderately ill patients, the incidence of non-classical monocytes risen in reversely. PA increases the non-classical monocytes involved in lesions-u2019 healing, according to our report, PA may also be helpful in such patients by lowering the risk of ischemic stroke and increasing the non-classical monocytes involved in lesions u2019 healing.

Trajectories of Lipid Profile and Risk of Carotid Atherosclerosis Progression: A Longitudinal Cohort Study

Background: An early examination of carotid atherosclerotic plaque characteristics is vital for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk stratification and prediction. In a large, longitudinal cohort of the Chinese population, we wanted to identify various trajectories of lipid profiles and investigate the correlation of lipid trajectories with carotid atherosclerosis progression. Methods: In this longitudinally prospective cohort study at Peking University Third Hospital, 10,412 participants aged u226518 years with u22652 times general health checkups were included. Throughout the follow-up period, we used latent class trajectory models to determine trajectories of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Participants with carotid plaque were more likely to be older, male, have a higher body mass index, have a higher risk of hypertension and diabetes, and have a higher risk of blood pressure, TG, TC, and LDL-C, as compared to carotid intima-media thickness and normal group.
