Patterns of adverse childhood experiences and cardiovascular risk factors in U.S. adults.

While adverse childhood experiences are linked to poor health, we know little about how specific patterns of ACE types are related to cardiovascular risk factors. The current study 1 examined the effects of socioeconomic status-related SES factors on these relationships, including increased cholesterol, smoking, elevated blood pressure, elevated triglycerides, physical inactivity, overweight/obesity, and lifetime depression. We investigated the relationship of these classes with CVD risk factors in adulthood and, later, the same model accounting for SES-related causes. Even after accounting for SES, consistent links between nicotine smoking, obesity, and lifetime depression with each adverse ACE survey suggest that behavioral CVD prevention efforts should focus on these CVD risk factors simultaneously.

Advances in three-dimensional bioprinted stem cell-based tissue engineering for cardiovascular regeneration.

An emerging field is three-dimensional bioprinting of cellular or biological components, in which tissue tissue-like tissue structures can be created. The inability of matrix molecules to reconstitute the extracellular matrix's complexity and the inherent cellular morphologies and functions of matrix molecules is a major obstacle in 3D bioprinting technologies. We review the current state-of-the-art in engineered cardiovascular tissue models in this report.
