Here, we investigated the regenerative potential of PICs after intramyocardial transplantation in mice subjected to an acute myocardial infarction. In the MI-PICs group, a significant rise in ejection fraction and fractional shortening was observed, compared to the MI+ PBS group at 6-weeks post MI + PICs transplantation. The Infarct size/fibrosis of the left ventricle's left ventricle's left ventricle's left ventricle's reduced in the MI-PICs group dramatically, relative to the MI-PBS group. In the MI-PICs group, the cardiomyocyte hypertrophy in the border zone significantly decreased, as did cardiomyocyte apoptosis, as did cardiomyocyte apoptosis. In the MI-PICs' infarct/border zone, the number of BrdU+ cardiomyocytes was significantly increased, relative to the MI-PBS group. PICs can be extracted from skeletal muscle and therefore show promise as a potential cell substitute for cell therapy's reparative and regenerative effects.
