Synthesis of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) from cocoa pod husk

Cocoa is one of Malaysia's key commodities. A large amount of pod husk, which is high in cellulose, is lost by the cocoa fruit processing industry. The cellulose was obtained by the extraction process of cocoa pod husk as raw material in this study. The cocoa pod husk has undergone alkaline treatment to remove cellulose using 12% w/v sodium hydroxide and 6% sodium hypochlorite. The cellulose chain's alcohol and ethers in the cellulose chain and the B-glycosidic linkages of the glucose are shown by wavelengths of 1056. 27 and 847. 39 cm -1, respectively, which are indications of the glucose's B-glycosidic linkages. As an alternative to commercial CMC and other synthetic polymers, Synthesized CMC derived from agricultural waste's cellulose can be used to produce biopolymer film. Therefore, the results from this research were helpful to produce CMC derives from agricultural waste, one of Malaysia's most common commodities for useful applications.

Zn/Fe/Al Modified Carboxymethyl Cellulose Biomass Carbon Aerogel for Capacitive Deionization

Due to their hierarchical pore structure distribution, high specific surface area, and modifiability, biomass carbon aerogels have sparked increasing interest around the world in capacitive deionization desalination. The results showed that coordination between metal ions and carboxyl groups formed a three-dimensional network grid system; in addition, the addition of metal ions greatly increased the surface charge and graphitization of the material. The CMC-Zn carbon aerogel electrode demonstrated a significant adsorption capacity of 25. 8 mg -1, indicating that it has a great potential among carbon materials for desalination.
