Self-Injury with Carbamazepine Intoxication in an Elementary School-Aged Child

"Carbamazepine, a common anticonvulsant drug used to treat seizure disorders, is generally considered a safe drug. " This is the first case of deliberate self-intoxication in an elementary school-aged child, according to our knowledge. All medications available at home should be investigated when intoxication is suspected in children with altered mental status. Petty children may participate in nonfatal self-injury habits, and diagnosis needs a high degree of suspicion. ".

Low-Frequency Vibrational Spectroscopy Characteristic of Pharmaceutical Carbamazepine Co-Crystals with Nicotinamide and Saccharin

"The characterization of pharmaceutical co-crystal is an integral part of the pharmaceutical industry. " Combining the THz spectroscopy with low-wavenumber Raman spectroscopy has demonstrated the low-frequency vibrational characteristics for carbamazepine co-crystals with nicotinamide and saccharin in this paper. The results show that a combination of THz spectroscopy and low-wavenumber Raman spectroscopy, as well as collective vibration and skeleton vibration, which may have a vital role in pharmaceutical science. Carbamazepine and carbamazepine-epoxide concentrations in mothers, colostrum, and breastfed newborns: Comparison with concentrations determined during delivery and in the mature milk period

"Objective: To obtain information on the transport of carbamazepine and its active metabolite carbamazepine-epoxide from mother to colostrum and breastfed infants. Methods: In this cohort study, carbamazepine and carbamazepine levels in maternal serum, milk, and breastfed newborn serum were determined between the 1st and the 5th days after delivery from November 1990 to February 2021. The median newborn serum/maternal serum concentration ratio of carbamazepine was 0. 45, the average newborn/maternal serum concentration ratio of carbamazepine was 0. 20, and the median newborn serum/milk concentration ratio of carbamazepine was 0. 38. Both carbamazepine and carbamazepoxide serum measurements were found in tandem with maternal serum concentrations of carbamazepine and carbamazepine, as well as between the milk and newborn serum carbamazepine. Conclusions: Just one percent of carbamazepine in the serum of breastfed babies met the reference range used for the general epileptic population, but more than half was below the lower limit of quantification.

Carbamazepine Increases the Risk of Sudden Cardiac Arrest by a Reduction of the Cardiac Sodium Current

"Aim: To determine the risk of sudden cardiac arrest associated with the use of carbamazepine and identify the potential rooting cellular electrophysiological pathways. "Methods: In general population cohorts using a case-control framework, the SCA risk association with CBZ was investigated. " Results: Using the patch clamp technique, isolated rabbit and human cardiomyocytes were exposed to elevated risk of SCA relative to no use. Except for the reduction of L-type Ca2+ currents in the general population, the key cardiac K+ and Ca2+ currents were unaffected, except for the reduction of L-type Ca2+ current by 100 percent. Since the concentration of 30 %u00b5M is well within the therapeutic range, we conclude that CBZ elevates the risk of SCA by a decrease of the cardiac INa. ".

Eslicarbazepine, but Not Lamotrigine or Ranolazine, Shows Anticonvulsant Efficacy in Carbamazepine-Resistant Rats Developed by Window-Pentylenetetrazole Kindling

"We focus our research on determining the anticonvulsant safety of different sodium channel blockers in epilepsy based on evidence that shows a lack of efficacy in some sodium channel blocker antiseizure drugs in epilepsy using the window-pentylenetetrazole kindling system to see if one of these drugs has an anticonvulsant effect that may have potential therapeutic use. " Fully kindled rats were then given a single dose of CBZ at 2, 9, and 16 days after their last kindling stimulation to produce CBZ-resistant rats. ".

Carbamazepine Induced Stevens-Johnson Syndrome That Developed into Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis: Review of the Literature

Both skin diseases are thought to be related to a type IV hypersensitivity response mechanism, and they can be caused by infectious agents or administration of a variety of medications as part of a spectrum of severe cutaneous adverse reactions. We present a case where a 23-year-old female patient referred to our hospital after taking carbamazepine and displaying high-grade fever and ulcers that appeared right in her mouth and nose but then progressed with treatment, spreading all over her body and affecting more than 90% of her BSA.
