New functional findings may be gained from modeling insulin-glucose homeostasis. Insulin and glucose concentrations changed from perturbation to steady-state in this model. These indicators correlate with key glucose metabolism parameters, such as the average glucose infusion rate in hyperinsulinemic glucose clamp studies, adherence to oral glucose tolerance testing, and HbA1c. SPINA-GR is markedly reduced in diabetic and prediabetes patients compared to normal controls. The new model identifies the key physiological features of insulin-glucose homeostasis. Clinical results show that it could be an effective biomarker panel for screening purposes and clinical study.
