The effects of high fat diet, bone healing, and BMP-2 treatment on endothelial cell growth and function.

Mice were fed a high fat diet to produce a type 2 diabetic-like phenotype, but low fat diet animals were used as controls. The study revealed that local administration of BMP-2 at the fracture site in a CSD model results in complete bone healing within 3 weeks for all HFD mice and 66. 7 percent of LFD mice, although those treated with saline remain unhealed. However, migration of BMECs from HFD mice treated with BMP-2 was elevated relative to BMECs from HFD mice treated with saline, although BMECs from HFD mice treated with saline were also increased. This is the first review to evaluate the effect of fracture surgery and local BMP-2 therapy on the development and angiogenic potential of ECs derived from bone marrow and lung tissue.
