Chronic atrial fibrillation at high throughput and high resolution is crucial for determining its source and guiding intervention such as cardiac ablation, but current electrophysiological techniques are limited by poor spatial clarity or electromechanical uncoupling of the beating heart. In a porcine model of chronic AF, the elastrode array collects epicardial atrial signals with comparable accuracy to current endocardial-mapping methods, but with two times greater atrial-to-ventricular signal ratio and >100 times greater spatial resolution, it is also able to determine electrical local heterogeneity within an area of continuously identified rotor-like electrical traces.
